Tachiarai (130.58E 33.39N) was the location of an Army airfield, training center, and air arsenal on Kyushu.
Tachiarai was bombed on 12 March 1945 by carrier aircraft. It was bombed by B-29s on 27 March 1945, just prior to the landings at Okinawa.
Some 606,500 square feet (56,300 square meters) were destroyed or
damaged. The remainder of the arsenal was destroyed in a raid the next
day. Seven additional raids were carried out against the airfield
during the Okinawa campaign.
