Tavoy (Dawei; 98.193E
14.064N) is a port in the
Tenessarim region of Burma. The town
had an airstrip that was part of
the air bridge from India to Singapore. Nearby mines produced
3400 tons of tungsten and 2400
tons of tin a year. However, the town had no overland communications with the rest of Burma.
Headquarters, 2 Burma Brigade was located here, with one of its battalions. However, the defenders were driven out of the town by a battalion of 112 Regiment on 19 January 1942.
