Agartala (91.28E
23.83N) was a rail junction in what is now Bangladesh. It was also
the location of a forward RAF airfield
during the Pacific War. Considered too vulnerable to Japanese attack from Burma in 1943, it was used for staging
only. However, by mid-1944, the airfield was considered secure enough
to base C-46 transports for air supply of two corps in the Burma campaign of that
year.
