Arakabesan (134.458E 7.356N) is a small island in the Palau
group, about 2 miles (3 km) long. The Japanese built a submarine base and seaplane ramp here. The nearby island of Koror was the administrative center of the Palaus and much of the western Caroline Islands.
The island was bypassed after the Allied seizure of Peleliu, Angaur, and Kossol Roads in September 1944 left it isolated.
