Fort Baker (122.479W 37.837N) was located on San Francisco Bay near the northern end of Golden Gate Bridge. The Army began construction of coastal batteries in the 1890s on land reserved by the federal government in 1850. By the time war broke out in the Pacific the batteries had been superceded by more modern guns at Fort Cronkhite, but still included three 12" (305mm) guns and eight 6" (152mm) guns.
