Sausalito (122.49W 37.86N) is a small port on the north side of the Golden Gate north of San Francisco.
There was a Maritime Commission shipyard in Sausalito operated by Marinship
Corporation. The yard had six ways and produced Liberty Ships and T2 tankers. The yard drew on
agricultural workers on this side of San Francisco Bay, of whom 90% had
no previous experience in a factory setting. The layout of the yard
profited from earlier experience with Maritime Commission yards and was
carefully organized for efficient flow of materials through the yard.
