Miura was an old Kempeitai hand who commanded 114 Division under 1 Army in Shansi province, China, from January 1945 on. His units were allowed to keep their arms by Chinese general Chang Ching-kuo, following the surrender, on condition they stayed and fought the Chinese Communists. Many chose to do so.
