Newchwang (Yingkou; 122.259E
40.675N) was a port at the base
of the Kwantung Peninsula. The United States had a consulate here as early as 1866, and a warship was beached here to serve as a fortress for protecting American nationals in 1894, during the First Sino-Japanese War, when the Japanese took the town after fierce street fighting.
