Rescue ocean tugs were wooden-hulled vessels designed to rescue
merchant sailors along convoy lanes. About 140 were completed in
1943-1945. Of these, fourteen were given to the British as Lend-Lease
and the majority of the rest served in the European theater. Most never
received a name and were identified only by their hull number.
