Tatung (Datong; 113.30E 40.09N) is a city and rail junction in the mountains west of Peiping. It was the center of a coal mining district with some of the largest reserves in China in 1937.
The Japanese Army
made use of the airfield
after occupying the town on 13 September 1937. Its loss was
lamented by Chiang
Kai-shek, who feared this would cut the supply line to the Soviet Union.
