Akinaga (alt. Akinaga Tsutomu) was chief of staff of 17 Army on Bougainville in September 1943. He became commander of 6 Division in February 1945 and was killed in action on 22 May 1945. He was reputed to be a strict disciplinarian but poor divisional commander, having spent most of his career in staff assignments.
