The Black Swan class
had proven sufficiently sound that, after war broke out in Europe,
another ten units were ordered. However, a number of alterations were
made to the design that justifies regarding them as a separate class. In
particular, they had stronger antiaircraft armament and a larger load
out of depth charges, and a modest amount of splinter protection was
worked into the bridge and gun shields.
