The Prometheus
class were former colliers converted to repair ships in
1913-1914. The two ships were not strictly sister ships, but were
similar enough that they are sometimes listed as such, as we have done

The Vestal was
moored alongside the Arizona
when the
Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor,
and she took two bomb hits as well
as considerable damage from the Arizona
magazine explosion. Her captain beached her to prevent her
from sinking, and
she was repaired for service throughout the war, giving particularly crucial service during the South Pacific campaign of 1942-1943.
