Takeda commanded
53 Division when it
transferrred from Kyoto to Moulmein in April 1944. His division joined the defense of
the rail line south of Myitkyina in May 1944, and attacked two of the Chindit bases. Unable to
successfully counterattack
at Myitkyina, the division retreated
in October 1944. The division suffered heavily again at Mandalay in January 1945 and
was
reduced to 1600 men by the
end of the war. By then Takeda had been recalled to Japan.
