The "U" class were completed
in 1943-1944 as the fifth group of War Emergency Destroyers or "Cubs". They were slightly larger than the previous "S" class but were otherwise built to the same basic design. Those that saw service in the Pacific had their original 20mm Oerlikon twin mounts
replaced with single Bofors mounts. We include here the very similar
"V" and "W" classes, the latter differing in having better surface
gunnery fire control.
