Fujita commanded Seaplane Tender Division 11,
which was attached to 3 Fleet
as part of 4 Surprise Attack Force when
war broke out. This force was assigned the task of landing elements of 1 Kure SNLF and 33 Regiment at Legaspi. Fujita later participated in
the Makassar invasion. He
commanded the seaplane tender group for the Midway
Island Invasion Force in May-June 1942.
By November 1943 Fujita was a vice admiral and commanded the Tsingtao Special Base Force. By 1945 he commanded South China Fleet, at which posting he remained until the end of the war.
