The Holland was
completed in 1926 for the U.S. Navy
as a submarine tender. She spent most of her career serving
as a
submarine flagship in San
Diego. She was sent
to Cavite in the
Philippines
just prior to the outbreak of war, and was docked at Manila when war broke out. She escaped to the south and served in the Pacific throughout the war.
