The Keokuk was an elderly
merchant ship (laid down in
1914) converted to a net tender/minelayer
and dispatched to the Pacific in December 1943. She mostly operated as
a net tender, being capable of carrying at least 10,000 feet (3000m) of
antisubmarine net.
