The Nisshin, completed 27 February 1942 at Kure, had a similar history to other Japanese seaplane carriers in that she was modified to carry midget submarines. In addition, she was designed to carry 700 mines in place of eight of her seaplanes. These could be laid through doors in the stern.
She was sunk by aircraft on 22 July 1943 off Bougainville.
