The Presidents were
completed from 1941 to the end of
the war. They were Maritime
Commission
standard C3-P&C
passenger
and
cargo ships converted to troop transports,
which
made for reasonable accomodations for the troops. They were
capable of
carrying up to 32 LCVPs
and 2 LCM(3) to
get the troops ashore. (These landing
craft would not have
been available early in the war.)
