Shibuya was captain of carrier Junyo at the Battle of the Phillipine Sea. Promoted to rear admiral, he commanded 3 Special Attack Squadron in
the
final months of the war. This was a squadron of Shinyo suicide boats and a handful of midget submarines based around Sasebo.
