Modifications |
The IX-Cs were
completed in 1941-43 and a number were allocated to the Indian Ocean, operating
primarily out of Penang. Two units, U-511 and U-1224, were transferred to Japanese control as personal gifts of Hitler to Hirohito, but U-1224 was sunk while attempting to cross the Atlantic and Ro-500 was used only for training.
